The World Cup to be held in Morgins, Switzerland, represents the third act of the 2021/22 season

After the stages having taken place in Italy and in Andorra, the WÜRTH MODYF ISMF World Cup circuit will stop off this week on the Swiss slopes of the Canton of Valais. Valuable points are at the stake for the overall ranking, but also for the single disciplines’ ones.

Lausanne, 26 January 2022 – The Région Dents du Midi, in particular the ski resort of Morgins, is ready to welcome the best international ski mountaineering athletes, who will compete in two races that promise to be spectacular. A Sprint race in the afternoon of Thursday 27 and an Individual race in the morning of Saturday 29 January are scheduled.

About 150 athletes from 16 different countries are expected to take part in the planned competitions. Among them, there will also be the current leaders of the World Cup ranking, Michele Boscacci (ITA) and Tove Alexandersson (SWE), as well as the home champions who, right on these snows, competed in the Swiss Championships a few weeks ago.

The track of the Sprint race tested by the Swiss Arno Lietha and his teammates will be the test bench also for the international competitors of the WÜRTH MODYF ISMF World Cup circuit. On Saturday, instead, the grand finale of the event will be staged with the long-awaited Individual race. In this case, the proximity to the slopes will allow the spectators to easily follow the best highlights of the race.

The President of the Local Organising Committee of the Morgins World Cup, Mr. Charly Rey-Mermet, states: “While the fame of our area has traditionally been rooted in ski alpine, the ski mountaineering – both as hobby and as a competitive sport – has gained in popularity over the years. For proof, just look at how many of our local athletes have risen to the top ranks of the worldwide skimo élite!

It is, therefore, a special passion that motivates our committee to organise this World Cup in order to provide first-class races on well prepared tracks with exceptional panoramas, to promote our beautiful region through ski mountaineering – which has recently been included in the programme of the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026 – and to provide spectators with the opportunity to attend a Sprint race, a dynamic and spectacular discipline, in the heart of Morgins village.

Thanks to our many sponsors, countless other contributors and more than 100 volunteers, we are on our way to fulfilling the Morgins World Cup as a successful event that we all will remember for generations to come.”

The Sprint race (only for the Senior category) to be held on Thursday afternoon will be live streamed on the official ISMF website at the following link.
