BUEHLMANN, Daniel

Profile

After several years of working in Indonesia, in 1994 Daniel Buehlmann got a cooler job at the Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research in Davos (Switzerland), where his skimo career started. Racing himself many years for pleasure, he wanted to organise his own Davos Race in the perfect region of Grisons. Daniel and his colleagues started with the first edition in 2008, successfully holding the Swiss Championships in 2010/2016. As referee, he participated in 2012 at the ISMF course in Zermatt. In the following year, he could take part in founding the first Skimo Regional Centre in Switzerland. The organisation of a long distance race from Davos/St. Moritz with only checkpoints was a big challenge, but important to promote the Olympic Dream between the two destinations. Since then he was allowed to work for the ISMF during many big events helping the local organising committees with technical briefings suited to their needs. The Lausanne 2020 Youth Olympic Games were, despite of the immense preparation work, the biggest highlight so far. He joined in 2018 the ISMF Technical Group. All his skimo activities are based on voluntary work. He is working fulltime in Davos for SensAlpin GmbH, developing alarm systems for natural hazards.
