September meeting of the ISMF Council

Lausanne, 19 September 2023 –The International Ski Mountaineering Federation Council met virtually on September 6, 2023, to discuss organizational issues, for the preparation for the Paris Plenary Assembly and add some events in the calendar.

The meeting was preceded by an extraordinary session of the Council, on September 4, dedicated entirely to approve and review the new rules for the upcoming season.

With nine Council members present, and no conflict of interests from any of them, the first point in the agenda was to review and approve the minutes of the previous session of the Council.

The Council was informed that, for the first time, both the ISMF President and the Secretary General will attend the IOC Session to be held in Mumbai, India from 14 to 18 October 2023. This represents a great opportunity for our sport to be better known, and also will be a key chance of working towards the inclusion of ski mountaineering in next Olympic Games and Youth Olympic Games.

ISMF President also informed that following a long and exhaustive work of the application done by Zuzana Rychlikova and Armando Mariotta (former President of the ISMF) under the coordination of the Vice-President Pierre Dupont, our organization has been recognised by the International Federation of University Sports (FISU). The ISMF will work in the coming weeks on defining the MoU with them, and appointing a dedicated person in our staff for participating in the Technical Committee Chair as per FISU request.

The Vice President Treasurer, Jim Moore, gave details of the monthly cashflow of ISMF and presented a provisional draft Financial Statements from 2022/23 before being audited as well as the P&L of the fiscal year 2022/2023 and the balance sheet of the organization as of June 2023.

Starting from this year, the ISMF has enhanced the level of the audit on financial statements, which now take more than compared to the last year’s review. Taking this into account, the Council agreed to postpone the approval of the Result of the Business Year (Income Statement) 2022/23 and the Balance Sheet as of June 2023 until the Extraordinary Council meeting that will take place on September 25, 2023, when the Auditor’s report will be already available.

The Team has been working in the past months on the 2023/24 budget. While we are optimistic about the new Marketing and Communication Manager’s ability to generate more corporate sponsorships, we are taking a more conservative approach to risk-adjusting revenue projections for this financial year. Our desire is to have a pipeline of opportunities and more empirical evidence of additional revenue opportunities going into next season.

The Council also approved to host the Asian Championships in Bei Da Hu Ski Resort, Ji Lin Province, China, from 25 to 28 February 2024. The governing body will also propose to the Plenary Assembly for their vote the candidacies of Baku (Azerbaijan) for the 2024 Plenary Assembly and Cancún (Mexico) for the 2025 Plenary Assembly. The Council proposes the Full membership of the Lithuanian National Skiing Association to the Plenary Assembly 2023 of Paris

The Council validated Athletes Commission and Council member Nicolo Canclini (ITA) to the Legal & Safety Commission, while previously Alessandra Schmid was validated for the Sustainability Commission and Marianna Jagercikova for the Gender Equality and Inclusion Commission).
