Milano Cortina 2026 Organising Committee unanimously approves Bormio as a location for Ski mountaineering

Lausanne/Mondovì, 2 November 2021 – The Board of Directors of the Organising Committee of the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics and Paralympics met last 19 October. The Board of Directors chaired by the President Giovanni Malagò and in the presence of all relevant stakeholders and its CEO Vincenzo Novari defined some important innovations relating to the venues that will host the 2026 Winter Games.

Among the other sports, MICO 2026 Organising Committee has also established the competition venue that will host the Ski mountaineering competitions, the new Olympic discipline that focuses on the relationship between sport and sustainability, between man and nature, and which will make its debut at the Winter Olympics Milano Cortina 2026. The Board of Directors, in compliance with the indications of the International Olympic Committee regarding the need to host the new discipline in one of the Olympic sites already included in the candidacy dossier, has identified Bormio as the venue for hosting the Skimo competitions, thus enhancing the area of Alta Valtellina as a highly prestigious scenario.

Thomas Kähr, President of the ISMF, gives his first impressions: “2021 has been a year of important and exciting news when the ISMF has lived the inclusion of its sport among the Milano Cortina 2026 and now the confirmation of Bormio as our location. We look forward to collaborating with MICO 2026 in the very next future in order to develop the competition sites”
