The International University Sports Federation (FISU) Executive Board has approved Ski Mountaineering as a recognized sport at the last Executive Board meeting that took place in Chengdu, China. Both organizations will now work on an implementation plan to make sure that Ski Mountaineering is showcased from now on at FISU events.
“I want to express our deepest gratitude for the acceptance of our sport into the International University Sports Federation. This momentous decision means a great deal to us, and we are truly honored to be a part of this prestigious organization. As one of the youngest sports recognized by the International Olympic Committee and included in the Olympic Programme, for us being part of FISU just makes sense, as a way to connect with the younger generations of athletes, and also as another proof of our true commitment with developing our sport even further”, explained Regula Meier, ISMF President.
Ski Mountaineering is a growing sport especially among youth athletes, and the commitment of ISMF with the younger generations of athletes is clear. Last season, the ISMF launched a Youth World Cup series, that will continue during the 2023/2024 season, for athletes U20 and U18, first years of University in most countries.
The journey to becoming a member of FISU has been marked by dedication, hard work, and unwavering commitment from our entire team. We are delighted that our efforts have been acknowledged by FISU, as we are convinced that this opportunity will undoubtedly open doors to numerous possibilities, fostering global cooperation and collaboration in the field of university sports, and will also bring more opportunities for our youngest athletes to compete.
The ISMF is committed to upholding the values and principles of FISU and to working harmoniously with all member federations to further the cause of university sports worldwide. The Ski Mountaineering community is really looking forward to a fruitful partnership with FISU, to make meaningful contributions to the international university sports community.
