THE MEETING BETWEEN THE LEADERS OF THE CHILEAN NATIONAL FEDERATION AND THE ISMF

On Wednesday, 2nd January, the President of the International Ski Mountaineering Federation, Mr. Armando Mariotta, met the President of the Federación de Andinismo de Chile, Mr. Eduardo Aguirre. The Treasurer, Mr. Manuel Arredondo Maritano, and the General Secretary, Mr. Juan Carlos Veliz, also attended the meeting.

The leaders of the Chilean National Federation explicitly confirmed their desire to re-join the large ISMF family. The South Americans also expressed their intention to invest in the sport of ski mountaineering. They said they want to organise national competitions and circuits and in fact, they already took their first steps in 2018.

In order to support our sport as much as possible, the collaboration with the local ski resorts is certainly essential. However, it is just as important to share the efforts and the decisions with the “neighbour” Argentine National Federation, currently certainly more involved in the events typical of the ISMF. Together, they could optimise the investments and with the help of the International Federation, through the organisation of courses for referees, race organisers and track markers, it will be certainly possible to realise some excellent and wonderful events in South America.

Without a doubt, the best time of the year for ski mountaineering competitions in these countries would be the equivalent of the European summer (particularly the months of August and September), and this would make it possible to extend the season of the ISMF World Cups.
