Double victories for Kistler, Deseyn & Canovi while Maupoix grab her first gold in the Individual

Lausanne, 19 March 2023 – Another magnificent day for the new generation of ski mountaineering stars, that faced today an Individual race on the second stage of the ISMF Youth World Cup in Villars Sur Olon (Switzerland). A race that saw again Jon Kistler (SUI, U20), Thibe Deseyn (SUI, U20) and Erik Canovi (ITA, U18) claiming the victory, while Camille Maupoix (FRA, U18) won the first gold medal of her international career.

On the Men’s U20 category, the victory was once again for the Swiss rising star of the sport, who managed to cross the finish line more than 15 seconds ahead of hie teammate Loïc Dubois, who grabbed the silver medal. The third place was for Oriol Olm, from Andorra, who finished one step ahead of his disappointing fourth place on the Sprint race last Friday. Davide Sambrizzi (ITA) and Jules Raybaud (FRA) closed the top five of the day.

The women’s U20 category saw another great display of Thibe Deseyn (SUI), the athlete to beat this season, who added gold medal to her already extensive collection this season. She finished the race more than one minute ahead of Louise Trincaz, from France, and Noemi Junod (ITA), silver and bronce on the day. Louanne Roussillon (FRA) and Anna-Maria Michel (GER) rounded the top five positions in Villars.

The Men’s U18 category was dominated from the beginning to the end by Erik Canovi (ITA), who was also the winner in the sprint race on Friday. The young Italian crossed the finish line half a minute ahead of his teammate Mirko Luppo Orcelli, while Germany’s David Jost finished in the third place. The Swiss team rounded the top five, with Theo Voutaz and Mathieu Pharisa finishing in fourth and fifth place.

 

On the girl’s side, the U18 category saw the only newcomer on top of the podium, with Camille Maupoix (FRA) getting the first major victory of her young career, followed in the finish by Martina Scola (ITA) and Melissa Bertolini (ITA), while Malin Indergard (NOR) and Margaux Mendes de Leon (FRA) crossed the line in fourth and fifth place.
