Cervinia hosts the first ISMF referee course of the season

A total of 17 ISMF Referees from Spain, Italy, Poland, France, Slovakia and Switzerland participated in the annual ISMF Referee Forum, held in Cervinia (Italy). The seminar was designated to review the ISMF Rules, discuss pending issues and prepare all the international referees for the upcoming season.

The event was led by Oriol Montero, Referee Manager & Technical Group Coordinator, and Stefano Mottini, in collaboration with the ISMF Sports Manager Josef Gruber, and with the participation of ISMF President, Regula Meier; ISMF Vice President Sports & Events, Pierre Dupont; and ISMF General Manager, Roberto Cavallo.

The referees will be officiating at the ISMF World Cup and ISMF championships this season, and the group included three female referees – Zuzana Richlikova, Marion Maneglia and Monika Strojny (also a ISMF Council member) – a great positive signal for one of our most important focuses – increasing gender balance in all areas of ISMF. The group was also joined by another ISMF Council member from Canada, Brent Harris, who is working on developing the sport in the North America region and participated on the Forum as an observer.

“With less than a month to go to kick off the season in Val Thorens, it was great to host this working session for the ISMF referees, so that all our technical staff is aligned and ready for the season ahead. It is also great so see that even though there is still room for growing, the number of females in all areas within our Federation is increasing. A few years ago we were only two female referees at ISMF level, now we are four -even though I can not be a referee now as I am the President- but I am sure that the number will grow in the next months. We are moving on quickly towards our Olympic debut, and the whole family of skimo is beyond excited for what lies ahead of us”, explained Regula Meier.

In early December, the ISMF will host a Referee Course for new ISMF Referees, which will take place from 10 to 11 December 2022 in Berchtesgaden, Germany, plus two online sessions the week before (5 & 7 December 2022). Anyone interested in registering for the course can do that through their National Federation before the deadline, November 28.
