ISMF-LGC World Championships Long Distance Team – 20th Millet Tour du Rutor Extrême
SECOND STAGE
Lausanne, 1 April 2022 – There was a French one-two at the second stage of the ISMF-LGC World Championships Long Distance Team 2022. This morning, at the end of the second exciting leg, the Frenchmen Xavier Gachet and William Bon Mardion won with a final time of 2h30’42”. The second place was for their compatriots Samuel Equy and Mathéo Jacquemoud (2h30’47”) and the third one for the Italian duo composed by Davide Magnini and Matteo Eydallin (2h30’53”). Considering the time gap from yesterday’s race, the first three teams are just 11’’ one from each other.
Tomorrow it is expected a close battle for the World Champion title. Among women, as anticipated, the triumph of Axelle Gachet-Mollaret and Emily Harrop continued. For them the final time was of 3h01’33”. Like yesterday, the silver medal was for the Italians Alba De Silvestro and Giulia Murada (3h11’57”), while the bronze for the mixed team of Marianna Jagercikova (SVK) and Iwona Januszyk (POL) in 3h13’19”. Their third place in the overall ranking, however, is not valid for the World Championships, given that they come from different countries. The Italians Mara Martini and Ilaria Veronese finished fourth in the overall ranking, but third in the ISMF-LGC World Championships.
In the second of the three scheduled stages, the staff of the Corrado Gex Ski Club had prepared for the 348 competing athletes representing 15 countries a race including 2463 m of difference in height. The competition, held in the heart of Valgrisenche, started from Bonne and finished in the location of Mondanges, counting four ascents, as many descents and two parts on foot with the skis in the backpack. The maximum altitude reached was 2963 m on Mont de l’Arp Vieille. To make it even more difficult, the perceived temperatures plummeted to -19°C at the highest points of the race.
After a tough second race day, tomorrow the grand finale of the event will be staged in Planaval and on such occasion the 2022 World Championship Long Distance Team titles will be assigned.

About La Grande Course
Six world-famous events, six classic races for true ski-mountaineering gourmets. The world’s top runners, the entire skimo community, a uniquely enthusiastic public, in some of the loveliest and most breath-taking locations in the Alps. Steep slopes, vertical couloirs and technically challenging descents are the basic ingredients of this sport. Team spirit and tow-rope camaraderie play a very important role: in fact, there is no individual racing in this competition and each race is run by teams of two or three athletes. Only the overall Grande Course time classification is individual, so competitors can race each event with any companion they choose, regardless of nationality.
