Statement of the ISMF Council

Lausanne, 4 March 2022 – The Council of the International Ski Mountaineering Federation (ISMF) met today via teleconference. In accordance with the IOC Executive Board recommendation on February 28, 2022 and in addition to the measures implemented on March 1, 2022

The ISMF Council has decided not to allow the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes and officials in international competitions.

The ISMF joins the other Federations and the International Olympic Committee in condemning the unprovoked Russian invasion of Ukraine and the breach of the Olympic Truce by the Russian government as stated in the IOC statement released on March 1, 2022: “The International Olympic Committee (IOC) strongly condemns the breach of the Olympic Truce by the Russian government. The respective UN resolution was adopted by the UN General Assembly on 2 December 2021 by consensus of all 193 UN Member States”.

The ISMF firmly stands with the Ukrainian people and the sport community with full solidarity aimed at rapidly restoring peace and safety for Ukraine. The Skimo Community is ready to assist where needed in support to the Ukrainian Ski/Mountaineering Federation as well as refugees and the athletes touched by this war.
