Marianna Jagercikova (SVK) and Oriol Cardona Coll (ESP) are the new European ski mountaineering Champions in the Sprint discipline

 

The first continental titles have been awarded today on the slopes of the Val de Boí, in the ski resort of Boí Taüll, Spain. The track of the opening competition, Sprint race, has included 80 m of positive difference in altitude.

 

Lausanne, 9 February 2022 – After the initial section, two parts with the traditional diamonds and one on foot with the skis in the backpack have put the competitors’ legs and stamina to the test before the fast descent towards the finish line.

Following the qualification, quarter and semi-final rounds, only the best six athletes had the possibility to fight for getting a medal and a success that is worth the season. Among Senior Women, Marianna Jagercikova of Slovakia has won the continental title of the Sprint discipline, followed by Tove Alexandersson (SWE) and Emily Harrop (FRA). At the finish line the local champion Oriol Cardona Coll has been able to celebrate the victory together with Nicolò Ernesto Canclini of Italy (2° place) and the other Spanish athlete Iñigo Martinez de Albornoz (3° place).

As for the U23 category, the new European Champions have been Patrick Perreten (SUI) and Samantha Bertolina (ITA). While the male podium has been completed by Robin Galindo of France and Paul Verbnjak of Austria, finished in second and third position respectively, the female’s one was all “Made in Italy” with Lisa Moreschini and Katia Mascherona taking the silver and bronze.

The U20 competitor Thomas Bussard (SUI) has taken the win, ahead the Italian teammates Luca Tomasoni and Rocco Baldini. Caroline Ulrich (SUI) has crossed the finish line first in the same category, before María Ordóñez Cobacho and Maria Costa Díez, both from Spain.

Compared to the World Cup events, also the U18 athletes are allowed to compete in continental championships. Therefore, Louise Trincaz of France has managed to beat Lea Ancion Havet of Andorra and María Ángeles Rodríguez Santiago of Spain, finished second and third in order. Among Men, instead, Norick Polchi (FRA) has won over Biel Pujol Parramon (ESP) and Jules Raybaud (FRA).

The Vertical race, second competition scheduled for the WÜRTH MODYF ISMF European Championships, will be staged tomorrow, starting at 9:30.
