The French Emily Harrop and the Spanish Oriol Cardona Coll win the Sprint race of the 35th Valtellina Orobie ISMF World Cup

The Sprint race held today concludes the fourth stage of the 2021/22 WÜRTH MODYF ISMF World Cup season

Lausanne, 5 February 2022 – Designed by the international referees with the support of volunteers from the Polisportiva Albosaggia and the Amateur Sports Association of Caspoggio, today’s race turned out to be highly spectacular both for the people who experienced it live and for those who followed it through the live streaming. The track, created in the ski stadium of the Valmalenco ski resort, partially followed the one already tested in 2016.

Immediately after the start, the athletes have faced the diamonds – classic section of the Sprint race – and then a very steep staircase carved into the frozen snow ramps. Once at the top, the race to success has been especially in the descent where several parabolic curves and some bumps have literally exalted the most technical athletes and made the large audience clap.

After the various qualification phases, the best competitors of the Sprint specialty, have exhausted their energy reserves in order to get a place in the final round. The Senior Woman winner of today’s competition has been Emily Harrop (FRA), followed by Tove Alexandersson of Sweden and Mara Martini of Italy. Among Senior Men, instead, as expected, the leader has been Oriol Cardona Coll (ESP), who doubled the victory of last week in Switzerland. Arno Lietha (SUI) and Hans-Inge Klette (NOR) have completed the podium.

As for the U23 Men, the local Giovanni Rossi has taken the win, cheered on by the home crowd, ahead of Patrick Perreten and Matteo Favre, both Swiss. Among Women, there has been an all-Italian podium including, in order of arrival, Lisa Moreschini, Samantha Bertolina and Katia Mascherona.

The U20 athlete Robin Bussard (SUI) has got the gold medal, while the Swiss Thomas Bussard and the Andorran Oriol Olm Rouppert have finished second and third respectively. Silvia Berra (ITA), Maria Costa Díez (ESP) and Manuela Pedrana (ITA) have taken the top three positions in the U20 Women category.

Once concluded the World Cup in Valtellina, with the participation of more than 100 athletes coming from 14 countries, the international ski mountaineering season will get to the heart with the European Championships starting on Wednesday 9 February in the mountains of Catalonia, Spain. In Boí Taüll, in the Spanish Pyrenees (Vall de Boí – Alta Ribagorça), four continental competitions will be held: Sprint, Vertical, Individual and Relay races.
